Officers were called at 8.11am to a multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 following reports of multiple people being assaulted, said the Metropolitan Police.

A statement by the force said: "A number of people were sprayed with what is believed to be a form of pepper spray by a group of men who then left the scene."

Live updates on Heathrow incident

Armed police attended and one man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody and enquiries continue to trace further suspects.

Police are not treating the Heathrow incident as terrorism.

London Ambulance Service also attended the scene and treated 21 people, including five who were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

There is currently some disruption to traffic in the area and Terminal 3 remains open.

Increased police presence

Commander Peter Stevens said: "At this stage, we believe the incident involved a group of people known to each other, with an argument escalating and resulting in a number of people being injured.

"Our officers responded quickly and there will be an increased police presence at Heathrow Airport throughout the morning, to continue enquiries and ensure the safety of those in the area.

"We are not treating this incident as terrorism. I understand the public's concerns and would like to thank those in the area for their cooperation this morning."

'Significant incident'

The London Ambulance Service said a "significant incident" was declared.

There was a "full deployment" of resources and the ambulance service is treating it as ongoing.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.14am today to assist emergency service colleagues at an incident near Terminal 3 at Heathrow Airport. Firefighters remain at the scene."

Heathrow is advising passengers to allow extra time when travelling to the airport and to check with their airline for any queries.

There was disruption to train and Tube services, with some delays on the Elizabeth Line and the Piccadilly Line.

National Rail said on its website that lines had been reopened allowing trains to call at Heathrow "following the emergency services dealing with an incident at the airport".

It said: "Although lines have now reopened, disruption is expected to continue whilst services return to normal, delays of up to 10 minutes and cancellations can be expected until 11.45am."

National Highways East said on X: "A serious incident within the @HeathrowAirport Tunnel has resulted in the closure of the #M4 spur road southbound between M4 and J4A.

"@metpoliceuk responding. We'll keep you updated."

It later said: "Incident has been resolved and all closures lifted on the #M4 southbound @HeathrowAirport spur road between #M4 and J4A."

People on social media have reported vehicles were being searched at the airport.

A user on X said there was a "major backlog of cars unable to leave the vicinity or enter the drop-off zone" at Terminal 3.

In footage on X, several armed police were seen in a car park.

The accolade wraps up a clean sweep for his McLaren team, after they claimed the Constructors' Championship in Singapore in October.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the final race of the season from pole position, but Norris coming in third meant the Dutchman was unable to overcome Norris's season points total of 423 by just two points.

Norris' title victory also ends Verstappen's four-year reign at the top of Formula 1. The Dutchman was hoping to retain his crown and win a record-equalling fifth-straight Drivers' Championship, which would have seen him draw level with Michael Schumacher.

Norris's teammate and title rival, Oscar Piastri, finished in second place in the race but third in the overall standings finishing on 410 points.

The 26-year-old is the 11th British driver to win the championship and first since Sir Lewis Hamilton in 2020.

"Thank you guys, oh my God. You have made my dreams come true, thank you so much."I love you guys. Thanks for everything, you deserve it. I love you mum, I love you dad. Thanks for everything. I'm not crying!" he said on the team radio as he crossed the line.

His victory marks a remarkable comeback to secure the title, after falling a season-high 34 points behind Piastri after the Dutch Grand Prix in August, when he suffered a late mechanical problem in his car when running second to his Australian teammate.

But in the nine grand prix that followed, this was only the second time he had been beaten by Piastri in a race.

That sequence saw him secure dominant wins in Mexico and Brazil, putting him in pole position for the maiden title.

"I've not cried in a while! I didn't think I would cry but I did!" Norris to Sky Sports in his post-race interview.

"It's a long journey. First of all, I want to say a big thanks to my guys, everyone at McLaren, my parents - my mum, my dad - they are the ones who have supported me since the beginning.

"It feels amazing. I now know what Max feels like a little bit! I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors the whole season. It's been a pleasure to race against both of them. It's been an honour, I've learned a lot from both.

"I've enjoyed it. It's been a long year. We did it and I'm so proud for everyone."

After conducting celebratory 'donuts' on the start-finish straight after completing his slow-down lap, Norris was embraced by his parents, Cisca and Adam, after getting out of the car along with his girlfriend, Margarida Corceiro.

He was also congratulated by fellow drivers before the emotion, and relief, at winning the crown clearly came out during the podium ceremony.

Describing Ukraine as "a far more corrupt country than Russia", he characterised Ukrainian President Zelenskyy as "one of the great marketeers of all time", who he said had become "a borderline deity, especially to the left".

He went on to describe President Trump's approach as "common sense".

'Bromance' back on

He also confirmed that Tesla billionaire Elon Musk was "100% back in the fold", after previously appearing to fall out with the president.

Earlier this year, Donald Trump Jr's investment company, 1789 Capital, heavily invested in some of Musk's companies, including SpaceX.

Directly comparing President Trump with Musk, he said: "Imagine dealing with one Donald Trump - now I have to deal with two.

"They're very similar that way, so it created some headaches… but the reality is they're both very much aligned, they're on message with what we want to do with our country. What we want to do with freedom of speech."

He went on: "Elon did incredible things for Twitter, really allowed the democratisation of truth and freedom and free speech to occur. That's something that is a true threat in America right now."

He also praised Musk as "changing the face of free speech, science and technology", adding, "we have to protect our geniuses".

When asked whether Mr Trump would stand for a third term, he joked that he could be "just trolling" those on the left.

He went on, "He's the most unpredictable person, probably in the history of politics. Which is why he's able to get something done. We'll see."

The disgraced New York financier's most lucrative currency was people. He made a career out of connections with world leaders in politics, business titans and science's most lauded brains.

The man formerly known as Prince Andrew, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, described Epstein's appeal in his infamous TV interview: "He had the most extraordinary ability to bring extraordinary people together and that's the bit that I remember, going to the dinner parties where you would meet academics, politicians, people from the United Nations. His network was not just US-based but the global elite - among them hedge fund owners, bankers and hoteliers.

Another man once called a prince, but of darkness this time, Peter Mandelson, described his "best pal" as a "prolific networker". Epstein's friends crossed political parties - Republican and Democratic - and continents.

Epstein's Palm Beach mansion was just a seven-minute drive from Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago. In 2002, Mr Trump told New York Magazine: "I've known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

They are said to have fallen out while competing to purchase a mansion in 2004.

The release of thousands of Epstein's personal emails shows he had had plenty of world leaders in his inbox.

The former prime minister of Norway and former president of the Maldives sought his advice on politics and finance respectively.

An enigma

Epstein's emails are short, often abrupt and riddled with spelling mistakes. The impression he wanted to give: he was a busy man, an enigma. You were lucky to be getting a reply.

He cared about appearances - his own and of the women he abused. He dated many models, including a former Miss Sweden. He followed a strict diet to keep lean and insisted the women in his life did the same.

His now notorious 50th birthday book is packed full of candid snaps, some featured here, that flaunt his lavish lifestyle. It is also brazen in its relishing of Epstein's proclivity for young women. Images of scantily clad women are included in photos and doodles.

The anecdotes from his wealthy, powerful friends are often smutty or innuendo-led. "It's no secret that Jeffrey appreciates beautiful women. But not many people know that he can create them out of thin air," reads one.

Massages were entry route to abuse

Epstein's black book of contacts had lengthy lists of women lined up for "massages" in Florida, California, New Mexico, New York, London, Paris and his island.

At least 152 women are named in it with phone numbers - they were available on speed dial.

The premise of a massage was often his entry route to abuse. The massages were scheduled, part of his daily routine. Whether on a private jet or his private island, he acted with impunity for far too long.

Epstein did not show remorse for his crimes

Multiple women went to the police to report his actions over the years. But the only jail time he was ever sentenced to was in 2008 after a controversial deal where he pleaded guilty to state charges of soliciting a minor for prostitution.

He was sentenced to 18 months in jail, but only served 13 and negotiated the ability to leave the jail six days a week for up to 12 hours a day for work.

Despite becoming a registered sex offender in 2008, he was far from a social pariah. Nor did he show remorse for his crimes.

Even a decade after his conviction, he was still mocking sexual abuse. He wrote in a message to a friend in 2018, "so many guys caught in the me too, reaching out to me. Asking when does the madness stop. Funny," and then that "breast cancer was easier to cure than the me too movement".

'Epstein claimed if girls had started menstruating they were of age to have sex'

Epstein's most vocal victim, Virginia Giuffre, revealed in her memoir that he would say that criminalising sex with teenage girls was a cultural aberration. He would point to different US states having different ages of consent - in Florida it was 18. He claimed if girls had started menstruating they were biologically of age to have sex.

Documents released by the House Oversight Committee reveal he paid to "clean up" what came up about him on Google after his conviction. On 11 December 2010 he bemoaned that despite forking out thousands, "the google page is not good" in an email.

'An extraordinary volume' of naked photos of young girls

On 6 July 2019, Epstein was arrested on federal charges related to sex trafficking after his private jet flew into the US from Paris.

"An extraordinary volume" of naked photos of young girls were found in his New York townhouse. Authorities also found a safe containing 48 loose diamonds, $70,000 (£52,000) in cash and three passports belonging to the sex offender. The expired Austrian passport had a photo of Epstein, but a different name and an address in Saudi Arabia.

On 10 August 2019, Epstein was found dead in his New York prison cell while awaiting trial. Forty-eight hours before he died he signed a will which put his assets in a trust, the beneficiaries of which remain private.

Ms Giuffre, who took her own life this year, closes her memoir Nobody's Girl saying: "Epstein is dead but the attitude that allowed him to do what he did, it's alive and well."

Six years after his death, Epstein continues to haunt those who knew him. Some may be scared - for their reputation, careers and for what more could still come out.

The 33-year-old player also suggested that next Saturday's match against Brighton could be his last for the Reds, who are the reigning Premier League champions.

Speaking after Saturday's 3-3 draw at Leeds, the Egypt forward told journalists he was in disbelief he had been left on the bench for the third game running.

"I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season," said Salah, who signed a new deal at Anfield at the end of last season. "Now I'm sitting on the bench, and I don't know why.

"It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

"I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far, I am on the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise.

"I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship. I don't know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club."

He joined the club in June 2017, and has been one of the Premier League's best players.

Asked if his relationship with Slot had broken down, he said: "Yeah, there's no relationship between us. It was a very good relationship and now all of a sudden there is no relationship."

Speaking about the Brighton match at Anfield next Saturday, he admitted: "I said to [my family], come to the Brighton game. I don't know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I'm going to enjoy that game because I don't know what is going to happen now.

"I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go the Africa cup. I don't know what is going to happen when I am there."
